Flipgrid Empowers Student Voice

One of my favorite new tech tools is Flipgrid, a program that allows students to capture short videos to share ideas and experiences with their classmates on the topics the teacher defines. Although there is a reasonable $60 yearly service fee, the free version (which I’m currently using) still allows an infinite number of topics to be posted on a single grid.

Thanks to Flipgrid Ideas, I had a jumping off point for how I could use Flipgrid in my classroom. Along with completely redefining the traditional exit ticket, I find that students have even more opportunities to practice their speaking and listening skills with one another in this format while we continue to build our classroom community.  There are running topics that can stay open all year (like our ‘word of the week’ and ‘book shout-outs’) and some that are only open for a short period of time (‘class introductions’ and ‘exit tickets.’) It’s absolutely worth picking up the free version and trying it out today! #flipgridfever
